This is one of the most effective ways\u00a0to futureproof your career.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Having experience in both large, publicly listed businesses and smaller, employee-owned organisations\u00a0creates\u00a0a much stronger and more adaptable professional profile.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Working\u00a0inside a large, publicly listed company\u00a0with potentially\u00a0tens of thousands of employees\u00a0and\u00a0possibly international\u00a0operations\u00a0teaches you things you simply\u00a0can\u2019t\u00a0learn\u00a0in a small company. How to navigate complex policies\u00a0and procedures\u00a0and cross-functional teams.\u00a0How to influence without authority.\u00a0How to get things done when the path forward requires alignment from people\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0never met.\u00a0\u00a0Your manager\u00a0would\u00a0be in another time zone, and you may never meet the CEO.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In\u00a0contrast,\u00a0working\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0small\u00a0company of fewer than 20 people\u00a0offers a completely different type of growth. There is\u00a0often far greater\u00a0opportunity\u00a0to influence and even\u00a0drive the strategic direction of the company. You\u00a0take\u00a0ownership beyond\u00a0your job title, decisions get made quickly, and your contribution is\u00a0immediately\u00a0visible.\u00a0You\u2019ll\u00a0be stretched in ways that accelerate your growth faster than almost any structured development program could.\u00a0You\u2019ll\u00a0also learn what it means to really care about the outcome,\u00a0because in a small business, everyone does.\u00a0The owner of the company is\u00a0likely working\u00a0under the same roof.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">As your career progresses, it becomes increasingly important to give yourself choices for the future. Large businesses and small businesses each teach you valuable but\u00a0very different\u00a0lessons.
